Cultural Details for Spiraea x bumalda 'Magic Carpet'

Flower Details:
Pinkish flowers, June into August, borne in flat-topped corymbs 4-6" diameter on new growth. Mid to late May, often sporadically thereafter.

Fruit Details:
Dry, brown follicle is not ornamental, maintained through winter. Remove after flowering to induce new growth and resultant flowers.

Fall Color:
Bronze-yellow leaves turn reddish before falling in autumn.

Bark Details:
Stem brown, slightly angled in cross section, somewhat lined or ridged, glabrous

Disease / Insect Problems or Resistance:
Fireblight, bacterial hairy root, leaf spot, powdery mildews, root rot, spirea aphid, oblique-banded leaf roller, scales, caterpillars and root-knot nematode. However, it is difficult to absolutely kill a spirea.

Can be used as a low massing plant. Ground cover variation of Spiraea japonica 'Goldmound'.

Culture and Care:
Largely container-grown, easy to transplant. Tolerant of most soil types other than extremely wet. Suckers from the roots. Prefers full sun, where it will offer color all season. Zones 3-8
