Flower Details:
Dark purplish magenta tepals (6) white inside, 4" long and wide, early-mid May.

Fruit Details:
Aggregate of follicles to 4" long, August- September.

Fall Color:
Yellow-brown.

Bark Details:
Gray on older trunks.

Disease / Insect Problems or Resistance:
Regular tip dieback, occasional substantial dieback in Maine.

Native Habitat:
Zones 4-9, raised in Italy.

Other Features:
A stiff broad shrub, flat across the top. Sapsuckers like these trees, leaving circles of holes.

Culture and Care:
Root from firmwood cuttings. Prefers moist, deep, acid soils in full sun. Will withstand light shade. Shallow root system, do not plant too deep. Prune after flowering.
